Beautiful park. If you take the trail, do yourself a favour and hike all the way to the end. I promise it's worth it.

I don't know how this place got so many good reviews - yes it has a crystal clear watershed with some nice views. Yes it has a pristine rainforest typical of the rest of Vancouver Island. But other than getting a leg work out I would never come back or recommend this place to anyone else. As soon as you get to the parking lot you think "wow, this is going to be a great hike" by the looks of everything when you arrive. The funny thing is after completing the hike you realize the parking lot and outhouses are the only thing that seem to be the priority for upkeep. For one, there are no signs at the trailhead telling you where to go, which was annoying because I had limited time. After 15 minutes and the fourth trail I decided I must be heading the right way. Upon reaching the Island Hwy we got lost again, as there were three trail options to choose from. We finally found what we thought was the right direction and continued. There is absolutely no signage anywhere on the trail telling you if you are going in the right direction, the only sign we did see was a park boundary one. For tourists I thought this would be very confusing. Without any directions I'm surprised more people don't get lost, or maybe they do and I just don't here about it. The trail seems to be in okay shape but there are tons of downed tree blocking the pathway. Also, getting near the end of the trail near the falls, you realize you're glad you didn't bring the kids. Not only is the trail beside some narrow cliffs, the banks are eroding and it makes the path more narrow. Another thing that I've seen at pretty much every other trail in the Comox Valley was ascent/descent lines in those steep places along the hillsides. These lines are definitely needed near the end of the trail where there are those tricky incline spots. So all in all this is a park with not really anything going for it except a somewhat functional trail and average creek. It does have potential to be an excellent spot but to me it was a let down. I guess even if it wasn't what I expected I did get some exercise in. If you want to to see some nice waterfalls go to Trent River Falls, Medicine Bowls, or Little Qualicum Falls. If not you might as well just stay home and play Call of Duty.

Rustic wilderness trails along the river. Very close to highway. Easy access for able bodied people. Dogs need to be on a leash.

Beautiful area in the summer. I recommend taking a little hike (3.5km) to the water fall area. Just don't do it in water shoes -.-
